Perspective takes on the SIA’s Overseas Cycling Challenge

From 19-21 May 2022, Thomas Harrison, Financial Planner based in Chorley and Charles Penn, our Head of Marketing & Business Development, are undertaking the Spinal Injuries Association’s (SIA) 9th Overseas Cycle Challenge which is aiming to raise over £100,000 to help fund the charity’s vital work.

They will be joining a team of 40 people from across the UK including a number of spinal cord injury participants, who will be using hand bikes or adapted bikes for the Challenge. The route is 193 miles over 3 days with 7,500 feet of climb, starting and finishing in Pisa, Italy.

Thomas Harrison says: “My role, of managing awards of damages following serious injury, regularly brings me into close contact with people who have been personally affected by spinal cord injury (SCI).At a personal level, I’ve participated in disability cycling for many years, including as a tandem pilot for people with visual impairments on the velodrome. Working at Perspective enables me to bring together two of my core beliefs: that financial planning advice should be for everyone, and sport brings people together.”

Charles Penn says: “I have seen the real positive impact that SIA has on the lives of spinal cord injured people and their families both in my current role at Perspective, and during my 10 years at a law firm. Whilst I am a reasonably fit 61 year old and regularly swim, play tennis and mountain walk, I have lived with Type 1 diabetes and ulcerative colitis for 20 years……managing my blood sugars up those hills will be quite a challenge!”

Their target is to raise at least £3,000. It would be great if you could follow and support their amazing journey in any way that you can.
